Chadwick off to flier with victory double

W Series By Tom Cary

Jamie Chadwick said she was much happier with her performance in yesterday’s second W Series race of the weekend as she wrapped up back-to-back victories to get her title defence off to the perfect start.

Chadwick, the two-time champion of the all-women series, which this year will support Formula One at eight race weekends, including the series’ first-ever round in Asia, led from start to finish of yesterday’s race, managing the gap shrewdly to second-placed Nerea Marti (Quantfury Racing) on Miami’s green track.

The race itself was far more stopstart than Saturday’s opener, which had two safety-car periods and very little actual racing. Chadwick beat Marti by three seconds in the final reckoning, with her compatriot and last season’s runner-up Alice Powell a further six seconds back.

Powell managed to nurse her car home in third despite her front wing hanging off.

“I’m really happy with that win and happy to bounce back to be honest,” Chadwick said.

“I lacked confidence yesterday and didn’t feel like I deserved the win, whereas this was our first proper race under green-flag conditions and I’m happy to get that one under my belt.”
