BARBARA HEPWORTH: ART & LIFE

Barbara Hepworth moved to St Ives, then a scruffy fishing town, on the eve of the Second World War. There she developed a new sculptural language drawn from the rugged sea-stacks and delicate arches of its coastline. Her sculptures, such as Disc with Strings (pictured), enfolded viewers just as she felt enfolded by the landscapes around her. This impressively detailed exhibition, which orginated at the Hepworth Wakefield, explores the life-long inspiration she found around St Ives.
