Winter Carnival Newbury

Sat, ITV3, 1pm

The first big jump race of the season, and an early pointer for the Grand National, arrives in the form of the Coral Gold Cup – once known as the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup – at Newbury. Corach Rambler and Remastered are the early favourites.

A year out from the Rugby World Cup, Eddie Jones’s England are still struggling for direction and identity. But they’ve got bags of character. Last week, the All Blacks routed them for 60

minutes before fly-half Marcus Smith led a stunning comeback to draw the game. This final Autumn International, against world champions South Africa at Twickenham, is another important litmus test. The Springboks have had a mixed tour thus far, losing by fine margins to both Ireland and France. Earlier in the day, Wales face Australia in Cardiff (Amazon Prime Video, 3.15pm) in a bid to see who can have the most catastrophic autumn.
