Michael Douglas’s dashing and happily married New York lawyer Dan Gallagher is seduced into what he regards as a weekend affair with Alexandra Forrest (Glenn Close, on typically brilliant form) in this solid psychological thriller. She, however, has other ideas, and the spurned lover turns into a ruthless stalker.

It’s overwrought in the end, but the build-up is well crafted and allows for an entertaining, if slightly disappointing pay-off.
