Fifa World Cup 2022: England v Senegal Sun, ITV1, 6pm

We’re into the last 16 in Qatar, which means knockout football and, potentially, penalties. Three-times runners-up Netherlands and one-time semi-finalists USA get us underway on Saturday at the Khalifa International Stadium (BBC One, 2.30pm), before a resurgent Argentina take on Australia at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium (ITV1, 6.15pm). On Sunday, reigning champions France face Poland

(BBC One, 2.30pm), ahead of England’s tie with Senegal, who rallied so impressively to knock out Ecuador. There are questions around team selection and Gareth Southgate’s reticence to take the handbrake off a fantastically exciting forward line, but the big one remains: can England get past their ITV hoodoo? Since 1998, they have won only six of 28 matches shown on ITV, compared to 19 from 27 on the BBC. The remaining four last-16 ties are on Monday and Tuesday, with the quarter-finals beginning on Friday. Nervous yet?
