Working from home

It has never been easier to work almost anywhere that suits your purposes: a home office can be anything from a cupboard with a slide-out desk where you keep files, or a desk in the corner of the kitchen, to a more traditional study or standalone building in the garden. Wherever you choose to work, the environment must be ergonomically efficient, but also pleasing.

A home office can feel more like a sitting room than a study, with paintings, curtains and upholstered furniture – we set out to create a mood with rich colours and dimmable lights. If you pursue the sitting-room option, remember that the chair in which you will be seated for long periods of time needs to be designed for that purpose.

Whatever the style of the space, ensure you make the most of any natural light; a desk by a window allows for illumination that is easier on the eyes when reading in the daytime. While document storage is less of an issue than it once was, make sure you have enough room for filing and equipment. It doesn’t need to look corporate – a bespoke design in a striking colour will complement any room beautifully.
