BROWN DOESN’T MEAN BORING

Brown, beige, whatever we’re calling it, when it comes to autumn fashion, you can’t go wrong in brown. Bound to deliver: it’s softer than black, less formal than navy, kinder on the face than grey, which, – I’ve realised with a bit of trial and error – isn’t always the easiest shade to wear, especially on very pale skin tones like mine. Women with dark to mid skin tones look incredibly elegant wearing head-to-toe shades of brown, and the colour also suits palerskinned blondes and even us fake redheads.

Easier to wear than you think, brown or beige trousers, skirts and dresses work best worn with similar shade shoes and boots. The trousers I’ll be wearing this autumn – flashback to the 1990s – are very on-trend right now: cargo pants. I happen to already own a pair. Bought a few years back from Bottega Veneta, I wear them with a shimmery brown disco blouse tucked in, but they’d also work with a round-neck soft knit and chunky gold necklace. No beige flags here, dear.
