DECK THE HALLS

FORAGED WREATHS, CAMBRIDGE

Forage for winter greenery or pop into the Wimpole Estate’s walled gardens, where dried stems from the harvest can be used to make a Christmas wreath. This workshop, from Anna’s Flower Farm, will cover how to decorate with foliage, including a seasonal drink, mince pie and a wreath.

Nov 29-Dec 6, tickets £75; nationaltrust.org.uk

CRACKERS AND CARDS, EDINBURGH

Families can make Christmas crackers and greetings cards at Holyrood Palace, to give homes that personal touch. Children will learn that making cards was a popular past-time for Victorian youngsters and hear about some surprising traditions.

Dec 22-23, adult £17.50 (child £10); rct.uk

WREATH-MAKING LUNCH, STAFFORDSHIRE

Welcome guests to your front door with a wreath made from foliage found in Biddulph Grange Garden. Once you have created your masterpiece, crafters can enjoy soup, a sandwich and a cream tea. The rest of this Victorian landscaped garden can then be explored after lunch.

Dec 6-8, tickets £40; nationaltrust. org.uk

CRAFTING IN A BARN, NEWPORT

Sero Zero Waste is an eco-friendly refill shop, so its wreath workshops at Tredegar House use only natural foliage that will decompose. Starting with a moss-based wreath, add dried fruit, ferns, berries, ivy, pine cones and ribbons (which can be reused), before tucking into mince pies and non-alcoholic mulled punch.

Dec 3-4, tickets £50; nationaltrust. org.uk

CHRISTMAS CANDLE-MAKING, WILTSHIRE

The cobbled streets of the National Trust-owned village of Lacock look gorgeous at Christmas, and Oliv’s new candle shop is a pretty place for a relaxing workshop. Try a mince pie, along with a drink, while learning to pour two soy wax candles – perhaps Spiced Orange and Norwegian Spruce – to the sounds of Christmas songs.

Weds and Sat, Nov-Dec, private classes from £45; olivhomeware. co.uk
