Replace Jones – and quickly
The RFU made a huge mistake contracting Eddie Jones for a further four years after the last World Cup. However, in the circumstances he now finds himself in, Jones reasonably could be expected to have experimented with various combinations and plans in the first two years, at the end of which he should have developed the core of the team, strategy and now, a year away, be finalising details of his tactics to win the World Cup.
As it is, we have seen little progress, no rational communication, no accountability and a list of defeats and close games which are held up as progress.
The RFU must make a quick decision to lose Jones and quickly appoint an alternative who can immediately bring some sense to the shambles that has been ongoing for three years. They should not wait for what will be an anaemic investigation into the autumn campaign.
