Potential 2036 bid lined up

Qatar believes the World Cup has been such a success that there will be fresh moves within government to launch a bid to host the 2036 Olympics.

The first footballing tournament in one city has convinced organisers they can host the Games with relatively little work needed for new infrastructure, although it is believed Qatar is looking at plans to have airconditioned streets along the marathon route.

A potential bid is no surprise, given the Qatar Olympic Committee has failed with three previous attempts to host the Games. However, human rights groups will bitterly oppose the move given Qatar’s treatment of migrant workers.
