MY SATURDAY Press-ups, popcorn and plenty of coffee

RONAN KEATING

The former Boyzone star turned presenter, 45, talks DIY, being the family chef and the battle of the bulge

7.30am I get up with my kids Cooper, five, and Coco, two. During the week I’m awake at 5am to do my Magic Radio breakfast show, so on Saturdays I love spending time with them before the rest of the house wakes up. They always twist my arm and have me making them pancakes.

10am I’m a grazer so I’ll grab a banana rather than a proper breakfast. I’m not eating carbs at the moment, but if there’s a gang of kids in the house, I’ll cook eggs and avocado. 11am In the gym at home. I’m trying to get back in shape. I did 100 press-ups a day for Cancer Research UK last month and I’m mad eager to get out for a run when I can. I’m 45 now so it’s a little bit harder to stay slim – especially as I enjoy my food.

12pm My wife Storm and I love a long lunch in town – and right now some Christmas shopping, too. Zuma is one of our favourite restaurants, I love their sashimi. Recently, we’ve also been finishing the build of our carbon-neutral house in Hertfordshire [it started in 2016]. It’s been all hands on deck. If anything breaks, I now know how to fix it. Storm designed it, sourced materials and worked with contractors. It’s pretty special.

2pm We like to get the kids out for a walk in the woods with our pug Aussie. Then it’s home for my second coffee to get me through the rest of the day. I can’t function without it! I’ve recently been up and down the country with Costa, performing in its stores and giving free coffees away. 4pm Popcorn and a movie with the kids – something on Disney like Luca. I’ll snuggle up in my cosy trackies. I just bought some stuff from David Gandy’s new Wellwear range. And of course, I look just like him in it…

7pm We’ll get the little ones in bed and sit down for dinner with my son Jack, 23 [he splits his time between London and Ireland]. We always eat as a family – and often cook together. The other week, Jack and I slow-cooked a Boston butt for 10 hours.

9pm We’re enjoying I’m A Celeb… Would I do it? [Laughs.] Then we’ll Facetime Missy, 21, who’s emigrated to Australia [Missy, Jack and Ali, 17, are his children from his first marriage to Yvonne Connolly].

12am I really value a lazy late night at the weekend, staying up watching a TV series like Yellowstone or House of the Dragon. I only read on holiday when I have the time. I’m planning a ski trip for new year. We deserve it after all the building work.
