THE HIGH PRICE OF HITTING

THE SLOPES Benedict Smith

Geneva is the most expensive European city for families hiring a car to go skiing over the new year, a study has found. Average costs have increased by 50pc since 2019, according to iCarhireinsurance.com, an excess insurance provider, with holidaymakers in the Swiss resort paying at least £841 a week. When including extras such as a ski rack, this could rise to £1,477. The cheapest city was Sofia, Bulgaria, where car hires cost £199 for the week – but even this is up £66 in three years.
