Rugby players prone to brain disorders
Former international rugby union players are 15 times more likely to suffer from motor neurone disease than the general public, according to research which has led to calls for drastic changes to the sport. The University of Glasgow study compared the health outcomes of more than 400 Scottish ex-internationals, largely from the amateur era, and also found they were twice as likely to develop dementia and three times more likely to suffer Parkinson’s disease.
