Big name: Tobias Ellwood

Tobias Ellwood, the chairman of the Commons defence select committee and former defence minister, has become one of the Government’s most vocal internal critics in recent years, and others, including Sir Roger Gale and Andrew Bridgen, have been among the first to submit letters of no confidence in prime ministers.

A total of 91 current Tory MPS did not publicly back Ms Truss, Boris Johnson or Theresa May in the first round of the last three leadership elections. The danger for Ms Truss is that they will do little to prop up her administration.
