Gender laws First Minister dismisses UN expert’s report
Nicola Sturgeon has dismissed calls to suspend her radical overhaul to gender laws in Scotland.
The First Minister was challenged in Holyrood yesterday over her refusal to delay the legislation until MSPS had a chance to examine a critical report from Reem Alsalem, a UN special rapporteur on violence against women and girls. The SNP leader claimed that Ms Alsalem’s concerns are “not well founded”. The Bill, which allows children as young as 16 to apply to legally change their gender without a diagnosis, is expected to pass by Christmas.
