Negative mood music

One of the pleasures of online shopping is that no one judges you for your tastes; one can wallow without embarrassment in an unremitting diet of naffness. On Amazon, no shop assistant raises an eyebrow if you take Tyson Fury’s memoirs, The Da Vinci Code, or indeed Atlas Shrugged to the checkout. On music streaming services, no hipster tuts if your tastes encompass Cliff Richard, Noddy Holder, Celine Dion or Right Said Fred. That is, until now. At the end of each year, Spotify will let you know if your musical tastes make you an Adventurer, Early Adopter, Top Charter or Time Traveller and assign you one of 16 musical personalities. The online world will offer no escape from musical snobbery. Some may opt instead to return to bricks-and-mortar outlets: it might at least save what is left of the high street.
